“To read without reflecting is like eating without digesting.” – Edmund Burke
Welcome to my world of reading. I read a lot of books. My occupation, as pastor, allows me to delve into volumes concerning biblical and ministry topics. Also, my love of reading has moved me to rediscover the treasure of the ‘classics’ and my hunger for truth and understanding has forced me to read topics out of my ‘comfort zone.’
So why did I start blogging about my readings….
1. To formulate into words the insights I have gained from my many hours of reading. I recently have been involved in a ‘book club’ and discuss the insights of various literature that we choose. However, I read way too many books to be involved in a book discussion of every book. So, hopefully, this will allow me to gain some practical insights from each book I finish.
2. To share with others what I have learned. I am at my heart a teacher. And to learn a truth only to know it does not satisfy my heart. I must share it. So, this will help content my desire to lead others into truths I am learning.
3. To give others a summary of a book to see if it is worth reading. I started way more books than I’ve finished. And And the money I’ve spent on some books I wish I would have saved to spend on others. Maybe this will help others decide if a book is worth the effort and cost to pick up from a bookstore or download from the internet.
4. To interact with others who have read the same book. There are few things more discouraging than sharing an insight I just read in a book with someone, only to have them not ‘get it’ because they have not been on the journey through the book. So, if you read some of my books, please let me know what you think – agree, disagre, discuss, or ask each other questions. I love the interaction.
Each book that has been read and reviewed is divided into categories and has been rated (See Book Review Rating). Also, I have a list of books that I am currently reading (please comment if you have any thoughts on these). And I have a list of books that are waiting on my shelf begging me to pick them up next. Let me know which ones.
Have fun!
