All reviews will be out of five (five being the highest score and one being the lowest). Below is a rough guide to my scoring:
- ♥ -1/5: A dull book that utterly fails to deliver. I would not recommend it to anyone.
- ♥♥ – 2/5: A fair book that would find few fans in its own genre and probably not enjoyed by others.
- ♥♥♥ – 3/5: A good book for those interested in its genre, but would find few fans outside its genre.
- ♥♥♥♥ – 4/5: A great book that will be enjoyed by fans and non fans alike.
- ♥♥♥♥♥ – 5/5: An exceptional book that will find a welcome place on any bookshelf. It’s one of those few books everyone should read.
When completing a review I hope to offer a concise opinion that takes into account the context of a work, its historical standing, form and value amongst other things.
Having said that, my personal enjoyment of the text will also be a factor in deciding the final score. I am aware that some books are masterpieces and loved by many, but I would still prefer to give an honest review of how I felt about the book. Obviously, your opinion is welcome.
